What does the check include?

A criminal record check based on the name and date of birth, run by a partner police service, plus an online identity check. If a match appears, the report does not spell out the convictions. That detail requires a fingerprint check at a police station.

Is this a vulnerable sector check?

No. SafeChecker does not run the check required to work with vulnerable people, and does not issue a fingerprint certificate. If your staff care for seniors or people with disabilities, that check is requested from their local police service.

How long does it take to get the report?

Reports are issued by our police partners across Canada. Most arrive in under 15 minutes. Some files take longer, for example when a possible match has to be confirmed.

Does the employee have to go somewhere?

No. They get a link on their phone, show their ID, confirm they are the person in the photo, and give consent. They can do it between two jobs, from the truck.

Can we turn down a candidate because of a criminal record?

In Quebec, the Charter of human rights and freedoms bars you from turning someone down for an offence unrelated to the job, or one they were pardoned for. Ask whether the offence actually touches the work, such as theft for a job inside people's homes. When in doubt, get legal advice.

How much does the check cost?

Should our subcontractors be checked too?

That is your call. If a subcontractor walks into clients' homes under your name, the client will not see the difference. The process is the same: you send a link, they consent from their phone.
